How we started
Susan established Uplift the Human Spirit in 2014, drawing from her personal experiences growing up as a second-generation Hmong in Stockton. She struggled with the same issues that continue to plague the community today, navigating the Stockton Unified School District as a student and later as a counselor. Susan recognized the importance of education and the lack of resources available to Hmong students, which motivated her to create a safe space where they could receive guidance and support.
Uplift the Human Spirit is dedicated to empowering not only students but the whole community at large.
Our mission is to inspire people to believe in themselves, follow their dreams, and set achievable goals. We are committed to giving back to the community through initiatives such as educational programs, scholarships, food drives, career days, and other events that benefit the people in San Joaquin County and beyond. Preserving our heritage for future generations is another cause that we are passionate about.
As a registered 501(c)(3) organization, Uplift the Human Spirit has been serving the community for almost 10 years. Our passionate team members dedicate their time off to work tirelessly around the clock to ensure that our community is served. Our organization's success is due to everyone's love, support, and valuable time.
Where we are today
We have developed four comprehensive programs that we believe can serve our community's needs. Each year, we strive to gather feedback from the community to ensure we are on the right track. We value everyone's opinions, and invite you to reach out to us. Our ultimate goal is to help the community beyond San Joaquin County. Our programs include:
Hmong Youth Leadership Academy
In 2023, we expanded our programs to include seniors. We provide them with essential needs such as pantry food catered to their cultural taste and informational kits to ensure that they have the necessary resources at their fingertips.
